Ok so that was quick

Ok so my idea was basic and after a little illustrator work i have desided that the cover was just to easy to post the process. (basically...Illustrator pick colour choice and drop in music lines with a logo.) DONT CONFUSE that just because the process was quick that the end result isnt amazing lol.

The idea was simplistic and yet i feel it works in a modern yet architechtural kind of way . I hope this works because the book itself has no inspirational benifits to ti so please let it work.

mmm idea

Ok im at home throwing around a few ideas of how i want to go about a new idea. Confused? yea me to ... ok so I have been looking at the idea that music also influences art and that harmonal refrencing is a key element in this. but what kind of art to do ???

I could go with the traditional fine art or wash colours but with todays economic and fast media climate i feel a more modernisitc approach is needed. So i have landed upon the idea of the most modern art to date STENCIL GRAFFITI. I am designing this image as a simple one that Is almost a silhouette ...I have desided to use this image of a headphone and blacken it out to see how it looks.

I think il change the direction on it to look sweet.
Ok so i did that and it looks remarkely similar to a stencil i found on the web. Keep in mind this stencil is a free download.

~I think the person used the same image that i am working with. Ah it soesnt phase me not going to scrap this idea because i like modern art.

New idea

ok so we have to come up with several ways to solve the problem of the book jacket so i did. I decided to come with a few images that i thought would work. I began to think of how the brain waves are the key in the influence of music through the mind and aafter looking at their wave direction...Idecided that it resembeled a jelly fish tenticles.

So i began to play around with the idea of a jelly fish as a brain and came up with this.

The picture is again simple but if we dwell further into the relevance of it we see that the colours represent the direction and signiture pattern of the different wave functions and signals of the brain and how they extend throug the body in a series of nerve passages. The head itseld is a brain ironic really because jelly fish dont have a brain just a nerve system.

Sadly however, my idea has been done. after looking further into this idea i have realised it has already been done so I have scrapped this idea so time to come up with something else.

Someone elses work to unhappy to recall the name.

book jacket

Ok so I designed this mock up in photoshop of how I think my book jacket should look it it conceptionally simple and i have chosen not to put a summary on the back of the book but on the inside sleeve to add effect to the cover. The cover is simple but simplicity is key and yet it invites us in with the haunting image.......Stephen king uses dust jackets like this without the summary on the back cover.

Book jacket....research

As this is a book jacket project I thought it would be a good idea to look at other book jackets. Here are a few that I found (Note: A book jacket has extra side bars at each side that must contain info on the book and author. A picture of the author is usually included.)

Starting Design

Hello again, so since my last post I have brought my work into photoshop to design a set image for the book jacket. I feel the imagery should come first then the design. I made several attempts at overlaying the image and distorting it. I have gone for a darker feel to the imagery as I feel that the goth influence and the word "Haunting " are the items that stood out to me. The imagery itself displays faces interwined it is the same face however and relays the message that we are all the same a "unity". this idea of unity steams from the novel and how Oliver Sacks states that music and life goes hand in hand. Music is life and life is music. Coplete unity.

There is a blue tint to the piece due to a neon glow i put on it to highlight the centre pieces however i have removed this to a more basic colour.

As we look into the image the faces are stark emotionless...Representing a deep hidden silence that we can relate to. A hole that can only be filled by music. I will post my updated image of music flowing through the piece next time. I did start with this image however trying to turn the image into a scan like a pregnancy scan but dropped it.

I may try something with it at a later stage.

Starting to Work

So I started working on my piece today however it took me several attempts to get right (and a fair bit of money). The first few attempts failed due to my model moving. But they are good back up and show the process of mistakes. These images show my final piece with the distorted mistakes underneath.

Next few images show the detail retained in plaster by the alginate process. These are of my final piece. The last is my final piece by itself.
